The Superion, or Vertiflex, implant is used to treat pain in the back and legs from lumbar spinal stenosis. Individuals with spinal stenosis commonly experience pain in the legs and back with walking. They experience relief by bending forward or sitting. One common sign is leaning forward on a shopping cart to relieve the pain. The Vertiflex implant acts as an indirect decompression device, recreating this leaning forward spinal position and relieving pressure on the affected nerves. Vertiflex can be used to provide patients with an alternative when conservative treatments have failed, and laminectomy is too aggressive.
