Kyphoplasty

Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat vertebral compression fractures. A needle is placed in the collapsed vertebral body under x-ray guidance, and a balloon is inflated. This restores some of the lost height from the fracture. The balloon is removed, and bone cement is injected in the space to stabilize the fractured vertebral body and subsequently reduce pain.
